Moritz von Laffert - Senior Advisor
Moritz von Laffert is a Senior Advisor to Advance Venture Partners, and is currently a Vice President of Condé Nast International and President of Condé Nast Germany. Mr. von Laffert is also engaged in joint industry efforts as a Board Member and Treasurer of the German Association of Magazine Publishers. Mr. von Laffert joined Condé Nast in 2009 and is a 25 year veteran of the media industry. Before joining Condé Nast, he held a number of executive jobs with the German publishing group Axel Springer. While at Axel Springer Mr. von Laffert built and expanded the Women’s and Lifestyle media divisions, which he ran as a key executive for a decade, and led several strategic M&A transactions for the business. Mr. von Laffert has led several investments for AVP while at Condé Nast International. He is currently a member of the Board of Directors for Vestiaire Collective and MONOQI and previously served on the Board of Directors for Farfetch.
Mr. von Laffert received vocational training in the publishing and media business before graduating with a BSc in Economics and a 1st class MSc with distinction in Management from the London School of Economics. He is based with his family in Munich, Germany.
David ibnAle - Managing Partner
David ibnAle is a Founding and Managing Partner of Advance Venture Partners. He has over twenty years of experience as an investor in small and mid-sized growth companies in the technology, media and communications sectors. Prior to co-founding AVP, Mr. ibnAle was a Managing Director of TPG Growth, the growth equity and middle market investment platform of TPG, where he led the firm’s global technology investing effort. Prior to joining TPG Growth, he was a Partner at Francisco Partners, and he began his investing career at Summit Partners. Mr. ibnAle is currently a member of the Boards of Directors of Above Average, Compass, Hytrust, Nativo and UrbanSitter, and he is also involved in the Firm's investments in EVRYTHNG, Gigya and Mediamorph. He is also a member of the Board of Directors of publicly held UCT Holdings (Nasdaq: UCTT).
Mr. ibnAle received an AB in Public Policy and an AM in International Development Policy from Stanford University, and received an MBA from the Stanford University Graduate School of Business.
Courtney Robinson - Partner
Courtney Robinson is a member of Advance Venture Partners’ founding team and is a Partner of the Firm. Prior to joining AVP, Ms. Robinson was a founding Principal of American Express Ventures. During her tenure at American Express Ventures, she completed investments in companies such as RetailNext, Bill.com, IfOnly, SavingStar and Learnvest (acquired by Northwestern Mutual). Prior to co-founding American Express Ventures, Ms. Robinson ran business development and partnership efforts at Plum District, a local market oriented e-commerce business, and she began her career at GCA Savvian Advisors, where she was an Associate in the Firm’s Internet group. Ms. Robinson is a member of the Boards of Directors of Curology and Sawyer, and is also involved in the Firm's investments in Rent the Runway, Monoqi, and Farfetch.
Ms. Robinson received a BA in Economics from Columbia University.
Alex Christ - Vice President
Alex Christ is a Vice President of Advance Venture Partners. He has spent his entire career as an investor in and advisor to technology companies. Prior to joining AVP in 2015, Mr. Christ was an Associate at ICONIQ Capital, a late-stage technology growth equity fund, where he focused on investments in enterprise software, financial technology, and consumer ecommerce and completed investments including GoFundMe, GreenSky Financial, and Turbonomic. He began his career at Morgan Stanley in the firm’s Global Technology Group, where he executed mergers and acquisitions, equity and debt offerings, and private placements. Mr. Christ is an observer of the Board of Directors of Above Average, HyTrust, and Sawyer and involved in the Firm’s investments in Curology and Modsy.
Mr. Christ received his BBA with a double major in Accounting and Finance from the University of Iowa.
Nomi Bergman - Venture Partner
Nomi Bergman is a Venture Partner of Advance Venture Partners and also provides strategic guidance to Advance/Newhouse companies for new growth opportunities, acquisitions, and investments in new business initiatives.
Mrs. Bergman served as President of Bright House Networks until its recently completed merger with Charter Communications and Time Warner Cable. Bright House Networks, was the sixth-largest owner and operator of cable systems in the U.S., with systems located in five states, including Florida, Alabama, Indiana, Michigan, and California. She is committed to providing guidance and leadership to the cable and telecommunications industry, serving on the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Technological Advisory Council.
Mrs. Bergman serves as a trustee of her alma mater, the University of Rochester, and is a member of their Institute for Data Science Advisory Committee and Engineering’s Dean’s Advisory Council. She has received numerous awards and honors, including induction into the Cable Hall of Fame, the Women In Technology Award, the Multichannel News Wonder Women Award, and CED’s Person of the Year. Mrs. Bergman is also the recipient of the Distinguished Vanguard Award for Leadership, Cablefax’s Lifetime Achievement Award, named Women in Cable Telecommunications (WICT) Woman of the Year, and a Women in Solutions Honoree by the Alliance for Women in Media.
Mrs. Bergman is a member of the Boards of Directors of publicly held Visteon (NYSE: VC), privately held Black & Veatch, Advance Publications owned 1010 Data, and AVP portfolio company Mediamorph. She is also a member of the Boards of Directors of several non-profits, including The Cable Center, One Revolution and Adaptive Spirit, a cable industry fundraising organization for the U.S. Paralympic Ski and Snowboard Team.
Gina Sanders - Venture Partner
Gina Sanders is a Venture Partner of Advance Venture Partners and also serves as a Managing Partner of Advance Publications Inc. and as an Advisor to both Condé Nast and Y Combinator, the world-renowned, Silicon Valley-based, business accelerator.
From 2010-2014, Ms. Sanders was President and Chief Executive Officer of Fairchild Fashion Media, a diversified trade and consumer media company. She led the company to high double-digit, bottom-line growth prior to its sale to Penske Media Corporation. A 29-year veteran of Condé Nast, Ms. Sanders previously served as Vice President and Publisher of Lucky, as the founding Vice President and Publisher of Teen Vogue, and as Vice President and Publisher of Gourmet and Details. She received numerous accolades during her tenure in these posts, including multiple placements on AdWeek’s Hot List and AdAge’s A-List, Condé Nast's 'Publisher of the Year' award, as well as the prestigious Matrix Award from New York Women in Communications.
Ms. Sanders serves on the Board of Directors of Katherine Cosmetics and serves as an observer to the Board of Directors of AVP portfolio company Joor. She also serves as an advisor to several nonprofit organizations, including New Story, a Y Combinator-backed, nonprofit startup building crowdfunded houses in areas of need around the world.
Tom Mastrobuoni - Senior Advisor
Tom Mastrobuoni was previously the Chief Financial Officer of Advance Venture Partners and is a Senior Advisor to the Firm. He is currently the Chief Financial Officer of Tyson New Ventures, the venture arm of Tyson Foods. Mr. Mastrobuoni has over twelve years of experience in alternative asset management. Prior to joining AVP, Mr. Mastrobuoni was the Chief Financial and Compliance Officer of RedBird Capital Partners, Senior Vice President of Finance at The Electrum Group, and the Chief Financial and Compliance Officer at Augusta Columbia Capital Partners.
Mr. Mastrobuoni received a BS in Accountancy from Villanova University, is a Certified Public Accountant and holds the Chartered Global Management Accountant designation from the AICPA. He is a member of the AICPA, the New York State Society of CPAs and serves on the State Society’s Private Equity and Venture Capital Committee.
